You may have recently been contacted by Colston Hall by telephone with information about our Transformation. On this page you’ll find information about why we were calling and how you can support us in our ambition to transform the hall.
In October 2019 we contacted audience members by email and by letter and provided information on an upcoming telephone campaign and the opportunity to opt-out of the upcoming call if they wish.
If you received a call from us, we hope that you enjoyed talking with us and hearing more about the transformation project and ways you can support our work.

Transformation Telephone Campaign
Why was I called?
Support from our audience is crucial to the success of our Transformation campaign and will ensure the Hall is transformed into a venue that Bristol can be proud of.
We wanted to talk to a selection of our audience who previously attended events at the Hall or recently booked an event in our programme, or who have previously made a donation when booking a ticket online or over the phone.
We contacted those audience members by email or letter (depending on your customer contact preferences as of 12 September 2019), providing further information on the campaign and the opportunity to opt-out of the call.
Where will my money go?
All donations will go directly to our Transformation campaign and the redevelopment of Colston Hall.
Our project to transform the hall will deliver a world-class music venue for Bristol, attracting the biggest and best musicians to city.
The flexible performances spaces will be completely refurbished to ensure greater comfort for both audiences and artists.
The Victorian part of the building will be beautifully restored, as well as our historic cellars being opened up for the first time as a third performance space and state-of-the-art education centre.
The transformation programme will also enable our innovative education and engagement work to transform its current offering and develop a focused programme that improves accessibility and diversity in music education.
How can I keep informed about the Transformation and ways to get involved?

Why was my call not from a Colston Hall telephone number?
This telephone campaign is being run by Buffalo who are a fundraising consultancy based in Bristol.

Why has Colston Hall decided to change its name?
What will the new name be?
It’s too early to say at this stage. We need to ensure that we get the right name for the Hall that will take it forward for another 150 years. We believe this is about more than a sign above the door. We believe that the new name should reflect a new vision for the Hall and its role in the city. That is why we are consulting widely with people to help shape our vision.

What made you decide to change the name?
Since the start of our transformation campaign, which we launched in September 2014, we’ve stated that we would be reviewing the name as part of our redevelopment. Our Board of Trustees unanimously made the decision that when we reopen the new building, it will be with a new name. We made the announcement in April 2017, well before the transformation began in June 2018, to make our intentions clear.

Information about Buffalo
Who are Buffalo?
Buffalo are a fundraising consultancy based in Bristol. They have been supporting the work surrounding our Transformation campaign since 2017, allowing us to reach as much of our audience as possible and maximise support from the public.
Why did they make the call and not Colston Hall?
Our team is relatively small and unfortunately we simply don’t have the resources to make all the calls ourselves.
Our teams work closely together, with Buffalo’s team visiting the Hall and receiving extensive training. This ensures that when they make the call on our behalf, they are able to share the most up to date and relevant information, as well as answering any questions you may have.
Buffalo do not work on a commission basis and 100% of your donation goes directly to the Hall’s Transformation campaign.
