Bristol Music Trust is working to address the industry decline in chances for up-and-coming musicians to develop their skills in front of live audiences. Our talent development programmes support exciting, bold and innovative new artists by offering amazing education, mentorship and professional live performance opportunities.
Here are some of the artists we’ve helped develop.
Before working with Bristol Music Trust, MC, spoken word artist and musician Solomon O.B was crowned Hammer and Tongue Slam Champion in 2016 and has featured on BBC Radio 1Xtra, Radio 5Live and The Guardian. With various live performance videos receiving traction online, Sol was booked for the Brighton Festival (curated by Kate Tempest) in May 2017, and has since gone on to support the likes of Chali 2na and Saul Williams.
Through Multi-Track’s Home-Grown Heat programme, Sol was assigned mentors in local songwriter and recording artist Eva Lazarus, music producer Tony Briscoe and publicist Jenna Knight. This team is supporting Sol to develop challenging new music, create promotional assets and devise a PR campaign around his new live show and LP ‘The Writing is Real’.
In 2017 Solomon performed at the PRSF supported Bristol Takeover event at Colston Hall to a crowd of 100+, a high-profile, cross genre event introducing him to a new audience. At the end of 2018 his development with Home-Grown Heat culminated in a performance at the Multi-Track showcase event at Arnolfini.
“The guidance I’ve received working with Bristol Music Trust has been incredibly valuable. Its provided a creative framework through mentorship, workshops and lectures that allows me to make my next steps with confidence and a sense of feeling more informed. To be involved has been a privilege.”
Javeon is a R&B vocalist, songwriter and mentor based in the South West.
He carved his early career via the dance scene featuring on tracks including Julio Bashmore’s ‘Father Father’ as well as releasing his own material on PMR Records. Early releases included ‘Intoxicated’ which took centre stage in Mistajam’s Inbox Fresh and was rated ⅘ by actor and DJ Idris Elba. J went on to become the first signing to industry legend Fraser T Smith’s publishing company Seventy Hertz. Since then he has been a highly sought after co-writer with several emerging UK and worldwide artists including Clean Bandit, Karen Harding and Lauren K Faith.
Javeon has worked with Bristol Music Trust as an Artist Mentor through Mult-Track’s artist development scheme Home-Grown Heat. During this time Javeon was working hard on his own ‘Redlight’ EP release and was able to offer real-time advice to supported acts based on both his past but also his immediate experiences.
After ‘Redlight’ the second project quickly followed with the single release of ‘With You’ resulting in media coverage in the likes of Complex UK and Rinse FM. Accompanying live show bookings transpired across the country and we have since gone on to book Javeon in support slots for exciting acts such as Swindle and Kaleem Taylor.
