Kirill Karabits and the BSO celebrate Wagner’s 200th birthday with a night of Wagnerian operatic show stoppers. From the nobility of Meistersinger to the passion and pathos of Tristan, the grandeur of the Gods’ entry into Valhalla to the brass-capped brilliance of the Tannhaüser March, the birthday greetings bedazzle.
Away from the opera house, rising star Valentina Lisitsa trains her ‘fevered urgency and iron-clad’ technique’ (The Telegraph), on Rachmaninov’s own piano concerto favourite.
