“In its broth of free jazz, old swing, doo-wop, electronics, Afrofuturist references and stagecraft that could have been directed by Ed Wood, a Sun Ra Arkestra show is about as far away from a conventional performance as the late leader of the band believed his spiritual home was from Earth,” says The Guardian. Sun Ra was a jazz artist, pianist and bandleader whose keyboard improvisations were original and innovative. Following Ra’s passing in 1993, the Arkestra perform under the direction of alto saxophonist Marshall Allen.
