Roy Ayers

Known as the “Godfather of Neo Soul,” vibraphonist, composer and soul jazz luminary Roy Ayers is a bona fide musical messiah.

A pioneering figure in the jazz funk and acid jazz movements, hits such as “Everybody Loves The Sunshine”, “Searchin’” and “Love Will Bring Us Back Together” inspired the generation of soulsters and hip hoppers that followed him so profoundly that Ayers is now cited as one of the most sampled musicians in history and he continues to produce new music with some of the biggest names in the business including Talib Kweli, The Roots and Alicia Keys.

Now in his fourth decade in the music business, Ayers remains a vital musical force, effortlessly bridging the gap between generations of music lovers and bringing a joyous energy to every performance.

On warm-up duty is one of Tru Thoughts’ very finest, Harleighblu. Combining a classic yet distinctive voice with a love of bass and beats, Harleighblu’s sharp, forward-thinking style of soulful pop music is dusted with grit and glitter in equal measure.

“Roy Ayers is the king of neo-soul music! ” – Erykah Badu

“Stevie Wonder, Whitney Houston, Herbie Hancock and Donald Byrd all agree Roy Ayers is King.” – Village Voice
