As a recent music graduate, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith borrowed a neighbour’s Buchla 100 synthesizer and started to experiment. The LA-based composer has been making “effervescent, kaleidoscopic electronic music” (Pitchfork) on the rare modular system ever since. Taking inspiration from the psychedelic electro-pioneers of the sixties, Smith sculpts lush and exciting worlds of sound that feel “at once like a statement from a bygone era and a transmission from a distant star” (RA).
