Jaga Jazzist

“Jaga Jazzist aren’t a jazz band, but they’re not exclusively any other kind of band either,” says The Guardian. They are, however, “guided by a jazz/improv sensibility and cool skilfulness that allows all its clamouring influences (electronica, drum ’n’ bass, prog-rock, classical and free jazz) to mix and remix accordingly.” Born in Norway 19 years ago, the nine-piece ensemble is “among the leading lights of the new Scandinavian jazz, but their sound resonates strongly with North American-style post-rock”, says Pitchfork. Witness “musicians whose ambidextrous talent lets them change direction at the drop of a hat” (BBC Music).
