Based in Bristol, UK and formed in 2014 through a mutual love of improvisation and the avant-garde, Run Logan Run are Andrew Neil Hayes (Saxophones) and Dan Johnson (Drums).
After a year spent improvising together they began composing music in October 2015. Treating their songs as blueprints, rather than concrete structures, allows the duo freedom to experiment during each performance. The result is a sound that constantly shifts between the boundaries of beauty and brutality.
So far in 2016 they have supported the likes of Colin Stetson and Melt Yourself Down, held a residency at Spike Island Art Gallery in Bristol, self-released their first EP and embarked on their first UK tour.
With a host of influences including Pharaoh Sanders, Can, Sons of Kemet and Lightning Bolt, Run Logan Run’s sound can be difficult to pin down; though one bold spectator offered the statement – “it’s like medium jazz, but also gnarly!”
“Andrew Neil Hayes has never been afraid to take his saxophone into new territory and drummer Dan Johnson is pretty fearless too. Their duo Run Logan Run sculpts spontaneous soundscapes using drones and effects alongside the raw power of their playing” The Canteen (Bristol)
