The Brazilian roots of classical guitarist Hans Hess give him an especial understanding of the many Latin American composers that have written for his instrument, while his formal musical training has also made him thoroughly aware of the Western classical repertoire. Both of these strands are represented in his solo performances and also combine in his original compositions, featured on his solo album Emotional Acoustic Guitar, released last year.

Born in Rio Grande do Sul in Southern Brazil, Hans Hess is a guitarist, film composer and music researcher. He holds a degree in guitar performance at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul-Brazil and further degrees in music from the University of Bristol where he is a Senior Associate Teacher in guitar. In September 2017 he was appointed Lecturer in Film Music Composition at Leeds College of Music.
