Take part in workshops and activities as we throw open our doors for Colston Hall’s Discovery Day. From Steel Pan ensembles, to family singing sessions, to a Pineapple Jam there’s loads to get creative with.

Workshops

Pineapple Jam
12:00 – 13:30
Lower Ground Floor

Take part in our Pineapple Jam! Explore and play with a series of innovative and curious pineapple instruments created by artist Savinder Bual, as well as percussion instruments from around the world. No previous experience needed, all ages welcome.

Family Music Workshops
12:30 – 13:15 & 13:30 – 14:15
Education Room 1 (Ground Floor)

Join musician Isobel Bedford for this fun interactive music making session for children under 5 and their parents and carers. Featuring percussion, singing, bubbles, scarves and more, this exciting and playful workshop will delight all the family. Recommended for children aged 5 and under, and their parents and carers.

Creative Workshop with Jason Singh

Stalls Bar (Level 1)

Join beatboxer and sound artist Jason Singh to create a new piece of music exploring the heritage and transformation of Colston Hall. No previous experience needed. This workshop is for participants ages 14 and over.

Steel Pan Workshops
13:15 – 14:00 & 14:15 – 15:00
Stalls Bar (Level 1)

Come and join Bristol Plays Music’s fantastic facilitators Alphonse Touna and Fraser McAllister for an inter-generational Steel Pan and Djembe workshop.  No previous experience needed, instruments will be provided, all ages welcome.  Each workshop will end with a short performance.

Musicians Workshop with Jason Singh

Education Room 1 (Ground Floor)

Musicians from across Bristol are invited to participate in a composition workshop with beatboxer and sound artist Jason Singh to create a new piece of music exploring the heritage and transformation of Colston Hall. This workshop is for participants ages 14 and over.

Lower Ground Floor

A chance for all the family to sing together. Join our Bristol Plays Music team who will lead a fun and inclusive workshop, teaching well-known songs for an informal performance in Colston Hall’s foyer space.
