Çiğdem Aslan

“Just occasionally, a new artist emerges to throw old music styles into an intriguing contemporary perspective,” says The Guardian of Aslan, a Turkish Kurd performer, born in Istanbul and now living in London. She is one of the rising stars in the revival of rebetiko: the outspoken but outlawed music that flourished in the Balkans in the 1920s. Expect “delicate soulful vocals, subtle theatrics and a stage persona that could switch from stately to slinky and flirtatious” (The Guardian). Part of the Making Tracks series.
