Bristol’s Americana Festival of blues, gospel, country and bluegrass from world-class artists from across the pond and closer to home.
Sadly Bettye LaVette has been forced to cancel her European tour and will no longer be performing in River Town at Fiddlers on 12 July.
Named by Elvis Costello as “one of R&B’s greatest under-acknowledged vocalists”, three time Grammy nominee Bettye LaVette comes to Bristol with “the fierce, confessional intensity of someone who barely lived to tell the tale” (New York Times). No mere singer, songwriter or cover artist, she was recording during the birth of soul music in the 60s and is still creating vital reworks today. Whether they’re interpretations of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Dolly Parton or Neil Young, she has the ability to reinvent classics with huge praise from Elton John, Dave Grohl, Keith Richards and more.
“She doesn’t just sing the song, she lives in each of them. I’ve heard it. I’ve stood close enough to see it in her eyes” (Jon Bon Jovi).
This is a standing show. Taking place at Fiddlers, Willway St, Bristol BS3 4BG
