Photos: The Specials at Bristol Harbourside

On Friday 19 July 2019 we skanked in the rain as The Specials returned to Bristol to perform at Bristol’s Harbourside for their biggest show in the city to date.

The weather didn’t dampen our spirits as the 5,000 strong crowd sang along with ska classics ‘Message To You Rudy’, ‘Rat Race’ and ‘Too Much Too Young’ as well as tracks from their latest release ‘Encore’.

The equally influential band of Bristolian inception The Pop Group began the night with an explosive set that saw front man Mark Stewart rouse the crowd with a ferocious vocal performance.

Then The Specials took to the stage with their exhilarating and joyous live show that held, in equal balance, a generous helping of their classic anthems alongside modern and rousing political commentary. As Bristol 24/7 later reviewed The Specials’ embodiment of political anxieties was “as fierce today as it was 20 years ago…who else but The Specials could comment on our current affairs with such style?”
