Calling all budding Folk musicians – win a recording session from Dave Swarbrick!
Ever dreamt of having Dave Swarbrick playing on one of your songs ?
Here is an unprecedented opportunity to have the fiddling legend guesting on your songs’ recording!
Dave Swarbrick, or Swarb as he is affectionately known, has been credited with the heralding of the ‘second folk revival’ in 1968 when he started playing with Fairport Convention. His fiddle playing is regarded as being largely responsible for the then new sound and direction of Fairport Convention and he has been described by Ashley Hutchings as ‘the most influential [British] fiddle player bar none’ and his style has been copied or developed by almost every British, and many World folk violin players that have followed him.
To celebrate the launch of the first solo tour by Dave Swarbrick in April and May of next year, which is being organised by a champion of emerging acoustic folk and roots musicians, Helen Meissner’s Folkstock Represents agency, a new division of the Folkstock Arts Foundation, Dave is inviting musicians to submit their original songs and up to 6 tracks will get selected for the ‘ swarb’ treatment.
Dave is keen to encourage young and emerging folk musicians and lend his support to their endeavours. Having experienced the rigours of the music business, and all the changes that the digital age has bestowed on musicians, as an active recording and performing artist he is well aware of the challenges faced and wants to be able to help others’ get a foot on the musical ladder. To this end, he has requested a young folk trio, Said the Maiden, to support him on his ‘ an evening with Swarb ‘ tour and wants to be involved in setting other musicians on their musical journey.
You have the opportunity to have Dave Swarbrick adding a sympathetic fiddle part to your song, or recording the fiddle part which you have already created and you will be able to record it at no cost to yourself, before Dave’s fiddle line is added.
The completed track would be included on an EP, entitled ‘Passing the Baton’ for digital release next year and promoted by the Folkstock Arts Foundation. Some of the lucky musicians will also get the opportunity to perform their song with Dave on his national tour in April and May next year. All relevant rights to the songs compositions will remain intact.
To apply for this once in a lifetime opportunity, please send your song, in any format you have, to Helen Meissner at firstname.lastname@example.org by 31/12/13.
