Celebrate International Women’s Day with Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra

The Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and Bristol Music Trust are welcoming the entire musical community to join together with a Rusty & Not So Rusty Musicians day on Sunday 10 March at Bristol Cathedral Choir School.

To celebrate International Women’s Day, the programme will feature works by some of the greatest female composers, including Fanny Hensel, Ethel Smyth, Germain Tailleferre, Anna Amelia and Elena Kats-Chernin, and the day will be led by the BSO’s Leverhulme Young Conductor in Association Marta Gardolińska.

Rusty & Not So Rusty Musicians allows amateur musicians to perform alongside professional musicians from the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. Rusties benefit from specialist coaching during rehearsals, professional instruction from a BSO conductor, and meet like-minded people in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

International Women’s Day Rusties is open to everyone. Starting with sectionals and then joining together in tutti, with professional coaching from BSO musicians, this is a day not to be missed. Whether you are an up-and-coming young musicians or if you want to get back into playing, the friendly atmosphere and specialist coaching aims to make it a memorable day for all.

Polish conductor Marta Gardolińska was appointed as the BSO’s Leverhulme Young Conductor in Association earlier this year and performed her first main Season concerts with the BSO in October, stepping in at the last minute. Marta’s performances were extremely well-received by both audiences and critics.

David Truslove from Classical Source said:

“it all blazed gloriously though and left in no doubt that Gardolińska is a highly promising and exciting conductor”.

The project is aimed at young fledgling talent, those who would like to experience playing in an orchestra, and also those who may be more rusty – a reason to begin playing once more. Musicians of all ages are invited to take part in the Rusty and Not So Rusty Musicians events, with a recommended minimum grade 5 standard.
