Czech National Symphony Orchestra - Tuesday 09th February
Conductor Libor Pesek
Violin Charlie Siem
Schubert Symphony no 8 “The Unfinished”
Dvorak Violin Concerto
Dvorak Symphony no 8
‘Pesek shapes Dvorak’s melodies with great subtlety; his ability to achieve fine-grained orchestral phrasing is unrivalled’ insists International Record Review. With his own orchestra to hand and a programme positively dripping Dvorak, it’s time to find out what all the laudatory fuss is about.
Two eminently noble symphonies (Schubert’s, alas ‘Unfinished’) frame a concerto whose dance-driven finale remembers the recently-written Slavonic Dances. To play it is a young British violinist (and collaborator with Bryan Adams and Vivienne Westwood), whose debut disc of Elgar and Grieg caused Classic FM Magazine to declare ‘Charlie Siem, a violinist who’s really going places’.
