Free world-class opera right at the heart of the city when a Royal Opera House performance of Simon Boccanegra, will be beamed - live - on the big screen in Millennium Square.
The performance of Verdi’s moving Simon Boccanegra is scheduled to start at 7.30pm, telling the story of an unexpected reunion between a father and his long lost daughter, a passionate love affair and a murderous plot.
The event will give Bristol residents the chance to experience opera in the heart of the city, when Millennium Square is filled with deck chairs, Astroturf, ice creams and summer-inspired food to create a fun, ‘picnic-in-the-park’ feel. From 6.45pm, the area will come to life with colourful and flamboyant live performances from theatrical walkabout artists and roving musical entertainment.

This cultural initiative is just one of many fantastic, free events on offer in Bristol’s 2010 summer programme.'
The screenings are part of BP's 20 location national Summer Big Screens Programme 2010.
Anyone coming along is advised to bring a picnic blanket, family, friends and a box of tissues…
