The Theatre Ballads grows from a discussion between Kate, Bryony and Esther on how a long ballad is a beautiful thing but inevitably the mind wanders somewhere in the middle of the song and often we lose the story, without wanting to. We wondered whether the depiction of the story in some accompanying visual would allow the audience to stay with the story throughout and hence The Theatre Ballads was born.
The ballad is a story, a story in song. In this newly commissioned piece Horse + Bamboo depict songs of a great fight, a broken contract and a female smuggler. Each is a historic ballad arranged and performed live alongside puppetry and simple illustrations, drawing out the tales before your eyes!
Also featuring respected folk musician Ewan McLennan, together their voices, harmonies, stories, puppets, music and animation will combine to create an evocative new look at visual theatre and folk music.
This is a seated show.
