Join Explorer Dome for family-friendly science you can handle! Our pop-up planetarium hosts much more than space so let our lively, interactive science shows immerse you in the rainforest, dazzle you with experiments on light & colour or take you on a tour of the human body. Fun will be had, volunteers will be required, audience interaction is essential and you will have the chance to quiz the experts on life, the universe and (almost!) anything. Explorer Dome is one of the UK’s best-respected science outreach organisations and looks forward to showcasing its most popular science shows for families at this year’s Hoo-Ha.
Shows are suitable for 4-11 year olds and their parents, but all ages are welcome. Children under the age of 8 must be accompanied by an adult. You will need to remove your shoes and crawl through a short tunnel to enter the dome, but there is an alternative if necessary for those unable to crawl.
Tuesday 15th August – The Light Show. An enlightening display of effects and experiments inside the darkened dome; what light is, where it comes from, how it travels and how we see; for the younger children a story under the stars about why not to be afraid of the dark
Wednesday 16th – The Environment Show. Immerse yourself in the rainforest, desert and arctic to explore our natural world, food webs and animal adaptation; how we affect our environment and how to save the world!
Thursday 17th – The Body Show. What we eat and where it goes, a hands-on guide to diet, digestion and healthy eating. Follow the food to its ultimate destination as you float inside a biological cell. Be warned though… this is disgusting digestion from top to… bottom!
Colston Hall’s incredible Hoo-Ha! festival for children is back this August for the third year. For three days Colston Hall comes alive with music, mirth and rip-roaring fun for all the family. With interactive shows, awesome activities and tons of surprises in store around each corner, everyone’s invited to the Hoo-Ha party.
