Bristol Ensemble

Colston Hall’s associate ensemble perform work by Matthew Shlomowitz and Tansy Davies in a special performance within the Bristol New Music programme. Among other works the Bristol Ensemble will be performing a new arrangement of Shlomowitz’s Avant Muzak (16m) and two works by Tansy Davies neon (10m) and salt (12m).

Matthew Shlomowitz is a composer of concert music and performance pieces. Raised in Adelaide, Australia, he now lives in London. He is Lecturer in Composition at University of Southampton, and co-directs the new music ensemble Plus Minus with Joanna Bailie.

Tansy Davies is a composer who has worked with and written for some of the World’s greatest ensembles including the London Sinfonietta, London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Northern Sinfonia, the BBC Symphony Orchestra and the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra amongst many others.

With Davies, contemporary music never lives in an airtight box. It’s out on the street, friendly-aggressive, mingling with rock without ever losing the poise that stems from the right number of notes in the right place.
