Colston Hall New Year’s Eve Party with Bellowhead

Are you still trying to decide how to see in the New Year? Well, if there’s any better way than with Bellowhead, “the greatest live act in Britain” (Radio 2’s Simon Mayo), then we’re all ears.

Formed in 2004 by John Spiers and Jon Boden, the 11-piece big band is, in their words, a “delirious amalgam of schooled musicianship and anarchic abandon”. Fiddler Paul Sartin said recently: “we’re a live band; there’s an indefinable energy and dynamic when we all play in a big room.” And if that prospect isn’t exciting enough, the multi-instrumentalist Folk Award-winners will be playing not once, but twice at this foot-stomping party – taking us into 2014 with a bang.

Elsewhere on the night, catch rambunctious septet Brassroots, who “make a mighty fine racket” (WOMAD) with their brass-tinged pop covers, alongside the “hurrying scurrying soundscapes” of Bristol acoustic outfit Spiro.

The festivities continue throughout the Hall with performances filling every nook and cranny. The Natural Theatre company bring some orchestrated chaos to proceedings as their larger-than-life characters mingle with the audience, while The Original Spinners will be popping up to surprise and delight with their improvised dance routines. There will also be a PhotoBooth available to grab some pictures to help you remember the night!

If that’s not enough, Bristol theatre pioneers MAYK turn The Lantern into The Blind Tiger – an Arabian Nights themed cabaret. Journey from this year to the next with a cocktail or two in this electric palace of decadence and glitz.

If you’re looking for a boisterous and unforgettable night full of live music, cocktails, fun and theatre, we’re yet to hear of a better place to be this New Year’s Eve.
