Young and budding musicians are being given the opportunity to work with professional musicians taking time out from playing at Colston Hall in a scheme aimed at giving music students access to expert tuition and advice.
Musicians taking part in the scheme include award-winning trumpeter and New Orleans native Abram Wilson, renowned Israeli born jazz saxophonist Gilad Atzmon and the Mercury Music Prize nominated hard bop saxophonist Denys Baptiste. Participants will be given hints and tips to improve their playing in the small and completely interactive sessions and can bring along a piece of their own to practice and play.
Mijanou Blech, Director of Colston Hall Education, said “We attract such great artists to play at the Hall we wanted to harness that talent and help out local musicians who could really benefit from 1-1 tuition with a professional. We hope that with this kind of help the players taking part in the masterclasses will themselves be playing on Colston Hall’s main stage in years to come.”
The masterclasses are open to intermediate and advanced level musicians and cost £15 for adults and £10 for students, although places for under 18s are free in a limited bursary scheme. They take place on 6th March (Abram Wilson), 19th March (Sarah Gillespie and Gilad Atzmon) and 23rd April (Denys Baptiste).
Tickets can be bought from Colston Hall’s Box Office by calling 0117 922 3686 or online at www.colstonhall.org.
