Conductor will perform work at Colston Hall in May

John Adams' Doctor Atomic Symphony, which will be performed by the conductor himself at Colston Hall on Friday 12 March, has been voted by The Times as one of the 'ten best contemporary classical albums of the Noughties.'

The work, dramatising the lead up to Oppenheimer's decision to drop the first atomic bomb, is dramatic and powerful and is described by The Times as:

"Orchestral work derived from Adams's stunning operatic depiction of the fateful moment in July 1945 when J. Robert Oppenheimer's scientists swallowed their ethical doubts, successfully tested the atomic bomb and changed the world. Coruscating instrumental power, fine lyrical moments."
