Different Class is a programme for 12-16 year olds who are at risk of disengaging with formal education. The programme consists of weekly 2.5hr sessions during school time, and is based at the Unicorns Studios, Colston Hall. Participants work 1:1, in small groups, and in larger ensemble groups towards an Arts Award or OCN accreditation.
Rock School is a partnership project between Colston Hall and Bristol Brunel Academy (BBA) providing short, technical and creativity-focused sessions followed by after-school band workshops.
A project to develop the emotional intelligence of children through a varied programme of musical activities
Duet is a partnership project between Colston Hall Education and Bristol Brunel Academy. Colston Hall music leaders spend a week working with year eight students in Bristol Brunel Academy, writing several pieces of ensemble music that are based upon the project-based learning that the students are doing at school. The week culminates in a performance at Colston Hall in the foyer performance space.
Our schools programme gives you the opportunity to tailor a visit or workshop to your school’s specific needs or to access one of our schools programmes. We can work with your students at any age to develop their music al skills, learn more about the music industry and gain a qualification in the process, from OCN to Arts Awards.
Include backstage tours, talks by key members of operational, programming and marketing staff (subject to availability), and can be combined with a workshop programme.
We can provide a variety of bespoke workshops from song-writing to drumming to rock band sessions, DJ and music production and technology based ensemble work.
We can work with whole year groups over a period of time to deliver a topic-based project. Please see our Bristol Brunel Academy Duet Project spotlight for details.

We have been working alongside Bristol Arts and Music Service over the past six years to develop a comprehensive early years music offer.
Our alternative education provision is split into two categories: Different Class and Step Up.
Different Class
Accredited Alternative Education provision to which schools, PRUs and other agencies can refer individuals or groups of young people at risk of disengaging with mainstream education. Step Up
Our primary to secondary school transition programme, to help children adjust to ‘big school’. The programme includes a 10-week weekly session based in the primary school setting and a weeklong summer school in the Secondary school setting. All the work we do is underpinned by a desire to empower the people we work with. All our staff are trained Music Mentors and posses advanced communication skills and emotional intelligence. We are able to provide additional 1:1 mentoring alongside any activity. We can work with you or your students towards personalised goals using a variety of strategies.
