Get Involved! The Saturday Sessions
The Saturday Sessions
The Saturday Sessions are songwriting, music technology and performance workshops that take place every week in the Unicorns Studios. Staffed by professional local musicians, young aspiring artists can get expert help and guidance to develop the tools they will need to forge a career in the music industry.
Since the workshops began artists such as Lady Nade, The Naturals,The Goodness, Archimedes, Rhythm Artillery, In Your Honour and The Hit Ups have passed through the doors. Many young people that attend are at the beginning of their musical journey and are supported and encouraged to expand their repertoire and get creative with other young people.
If you’re 11-18, come along between 10am-1.30pm to give it a try. Sessions take place almost every Saturday but check the calendar to confirm it’s on.
Each week we invite specialist tutors to work one to one with you to help you improve specific aspects of your music making. These include:
- Singing
- Guitar
- Drums
- Production
- DJing
- Beatboxing
- Keyboards
- Bass
- MCing
What people have said
"I suggested a lot of things to him about how to phrase lyric lines etc but made sure not to present finished ideas so that there was room for his own decisions and so he would feel ownership of it and feel they were his own ideas. This seemed to work really well and he was really chuffed at having almost a whole song finished by the end of the session."
-
“He seems to be finding his place in the group and I think I’m connecting with him better each week. He was the "universal jammer'! playing with whoever wanted him and I even saw him playing bass at one point!”
-
“Was pleased to see that he has been playing some bass, and has been playing with loads of different people and socialising with a lot of people in songwriting, who afterwards said: 'he's amazing; we need to work with him more!' He's been perfectly well behaved, actually, so that's great.”
