Rouse Der gerettete Alberich
Mahler Symphony no 9
Marin Alsop Conductor
Colin Currie Percussion
After 5 seasons at the helm of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra "the conductor who makes a difference" (Daily Telegraph) is swapping one BSO for another - the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. It's au revoir rather than farewell of course, but we couldn't let Marin Alsop go without wishing her well. In a special extra concert how fitting that she should bow out with Mahler's 9th Symphony, the greatest expression of late-romantic leave-taking in all music. Emotions will be running high and no mistake! Marin being Marin that's not the whole story though. First comes Christopher Rouse's feisty percussion concerto, which imagines the trouble-making dwarf Alberich, of Wagner's famous 'Ring' cycle, causing havoc in a post-Gotterdammerung world. Momentarily reinvented as a rock drummer the charismatic Colin Currie should be in his exuberant element. Unmissable!
